Erstil O’Brien Sheckles was indicted on first-degree assault recently by the Bell County Grand Jury. Originally, Sheckles was arrested on an attempted murder charge on May 31.
The indictment stems from an alleged incident on May 18. According to the indictment, Sheckles allegedly beat Tammy Baker with a baseball bat. The alleged act was considered as extreme indifference to the value of human life, which created a grave risk of death to Baker.
Witnesses included several officers of the Middlesboro Police Department: Justin Barton, Joe Holder, Lt. David Buis, Jordan Hurd, Harvey Johnson, Lt. Mike Hensley, Lt. Tom Busic, Josh Burchett and Floyd Patterson.
Other indictments that were handed down by the grand jury include:
Jeffery Taylor ,Pineville, was indicted on the charge of theft by unlawful taking over $500 and for being a persistent first-degree felony offender.
Henry Shawn Gibson, 39 of Pineville, was indicted on the charge of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and for being a persistent first-degree felony offender.
Terry Wade Henry Jr., 36 of Hulen, was indicted on two counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent second-degree felony offender.
Melissa S. Fultz, 27 of Harlan, was indicted on the charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent first-degree felony offender.
Johnnie Keith Lawson, 50 of Pineville, was indicted on two counts of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of trafficking a controlled substance near a school.
Freddie O. Westfelt was arrested on the charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent first-degree felony offender.
Brent D. Henry, 35 of Middlesboro, was indicted on the charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent second-degree felony offender.
Jamie Michelle Lewis, Pineville, was indicted on two counts of trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent second-degree felony offender.
Bobby E. Griffin was indicted on three counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and for being a persistent first-degree felony offender.
Jennifer L. Spradlin, 43 of Middlesboro, was indicted on the charge of receiving stolen property.
David Charles Raney, 49 of Middlesboro, was indicted on the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana and public intoxication with a controlled substance.
Wendy Denis Adkins, 31 of Middlesboro, was indicted on the charge of operating a motor vehicle while license is revoked or suspended for driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Mark Joseph Hatfield, 52 of Pineville, was indicted on the charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursor, possession of drug paraphernalia and for being a persistent second-degree felony offender.
An indictment is an accusation only. Those indicted are to be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
