The District 4 11-year-old Little League All-Star Tournament is underway at the Middlesboro Little League Field. Weather has created a delayed start to both days of action so far, with Thursday’s openers delayed due to storms and Friday’s contest pushed back due to excessive heat.
After waiting out a heat delay on Friday, Knox County was impressive in pounding out a 17-4 win over Corbin in the final first round game. Tucker Holland led Knox with a pair of home runs: A two-run shot in the first inning and a three-run blast in the fourth.
Knox also got four hits from Trey Owens, who came around to score all four times. Peyton Payne, Thomas Jackson and Cole Hicks also had doubles in the game as Knox pounded out 13 hits in the contest. They led 2-0 after one inning and 8-0 after two innings.
It was 17-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, but Corbin didn’t let their last turn at bat go to waste. After being held to just one hit, a double by Peyton Tirey, they rallied for four runs in the frame. Brady Barton, Colin Kidd and Austin Reynolds all singled to plate one run and Noah Maze completed the scoring with a three-run homer of his own.
The tournament began on Thursday with Hazard downing North Laurel 15-2.
Braxton Cottongame doubled, walked and reached on an error as he scored three runs. Jacob Johnson and Andy Baker had doubles and and Hazard also got a triple from Trajon Campbell and singles from Cameron Stacy, Wade Pelfrey and Dalton Bryant in the win.
North Laurel’s only hit was an RBI single by Pennington. Jewell and Purvis socred the North runs after drawing walks in the second inning.
Thursday’s late game saw Harlan defeat Pulaksi County 10-3.
Garry Henson led Harlan at the plate with a triple, double and single. Josh Turner had three singles. Jordan Steele, Jacob Wilson and James Gray added two singles each. Benjamin Lewis doubled and Jacob Thompson singled in the game.
