Staff Report

Saturday’s “Cruising the Crater” had a big turnout with over 300 cars and more than 1,000 people that showed up for the event.

Owners from Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort and Berea and many other areas brought their vehicles to the event, al9ong with a car club from Leslie County that brought 15 cars with them. Several individuals even came across the Tennessee border to showcase their vehicles at the event. Those individuals came from Knoxville, Morristown, Lafollette and Kingsport.

Saturday was also the birthday of the DJ of the event, Gary England. People were treated to free cake and ice cream in celebration of his birthday.

With all the out-of-towners at the event, it allowed for some extra traffic at the mall.

“The event this past Saturday generated good traffic for us at the mall,” said Middlesboro Mall Manager Charles Burchfield.

He also stated the tenants at the mall were happy because it could help generate extra sells. “It was a good turnout,” said Burchfield.

There will be one more “Crusin’ the Crater” from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 15. After that plans will begin for the event next year.

“We are planning for a bigger turnout next year with more and great things to come,” said Leamon Moyers, member of the Tri-State Cruisers, which organizes the event.
