Staff Report

The Bell Fiscal Court rejected bids involving the Brownies Creek Community Park during the regular meeting on Tuesday.

Bids rejected were for the construction of the park and for blacktopping.

Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock said the bids came in a little higher than expected, noting there will be a rebidding for the project. The court plans to hold a mandatory meeting with the contractors at the site to discuss the project.

The Brownies Creek Community Park was announced about a month ago. The park will have a walking track, basketball court, playground equipment, a shelter with concrete flooring and a parking lot.

There were several employments announced during the meeting. These included: Robert Brumbach as a part-time paramedic at $9.50 an hour; Brandon Hoskins as a part-time animal shelter worker at $7.25 an hour; Eddie Farmer as a part-time deputy jailer at $7.25 and hour; and Rossi Baker as a part-time tax clerk in the Bell County Sheriff’s Office at $10 an hour.

Each new hire will become effective on Oct. 11.

Other action included:

• Approving to pay bills and make necessary transfer of funds;

• Accepting the treasurer’s financial statement from the previous month;

• Accepting the sheriff’s claim sheet for the fee account from previous month;

• Taking Wilder Lane into the Bell County Road System in District 5;

• Received a check in the amount of $19,868.25 from Sheriff Bruce Bennett;

• Accepted checks from County Clerk Becky Blevins.

It's great to see the Brownies Creek area is getting a community park. As was the park on HW 119. But i haven't seen or read any plans for any other community parks in the county. I'm sure other areas of the county would like to see a community park in their areas also! So are there other parks planned in other areas in the county?
