Mike Williams, age 50 of Bristol, Va., and formerly of Lee County, Va., passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at his residence.

He graduated from Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, Va., in 1980 and graduated from John Tyler Community College with a degree in funeral service in 1982. He was a member of Providence Community Church in Abingdon, Va.

Mike’s career in the funeral industry expanded over 32 years, having been associated with E. Alvin Small Funeral Home of Richmond, Va., Sturgill Funeral Home and Arney-Mullins Funeral Home of Rose Hill, Va., Farris Funeral Home of Abingdon, Va., Oakley-Cook Funeral Home of Bristol, Tenn., and Johnson Funeral Home of Damascus, Va. He was currently employed by Colonial Funeral Home of Scott County in Weber City, Va.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Evelyn Williams; uncles, Norman, Boyd and Donald Williams; and aunt, Peggy Williams.

Surviving are his mother, Shirley Alene Williams of Ewing, Va.; brother, Danny Williams and wife Janice of Rose Hill, Va.; sisters, Kimberly Tipton and husband Terry of Ewing, Va., and Pamela Tompkins and husband Dr. Charles Tompkins of Harrogate, Tenn.; nephews, Cpl. Jason Williams and wife Christy of Camp Lejune, N.C., T.J. Tipton and wife Tisha of Middlesboro, Adam Tipton of Ewing, Va., Samuel and Chad Tompkins, both of Harrogate, Tenn., and Brandon Scruggs of Buchanan, Va.; nieces, Misty Palmore and husband Frederick and Sarah Williams, all of Buckingham, Va., Morgan Smith and husband Travis of Clinton, Tenn., Cynthia Scruggs of Buchanan, Va.; great-nieces and nephews, Abbey and Jacob Palmore, Hayley, Jason and Chase Williams, Arianna and Levi Smith and McKenzie Scruggs; his loving pets, Rufus and Sophie, Nikki and Abbey; and special friends, Gene and Jeanette Hurd, Debbie Woods, John, Debbie, John Jr., and Michael Hinkle, Lou and Sherri Smith, Robert Givens, Jack Frost, Dot Frost and Larry Davidson.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Va.

Memorial services will follow with the Rev. John Thrasher, pastor of Providence Community Church of Abingdon, officiating.

Committal graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jones Cemetery in Ewing, Va., with Pastor Scott Cannon of Pump Springs Baptist Church of Harrogate, Tenn., officiating.
