The Pineville City Council met at a special called meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the council chambers at Pineville City Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to approve a resolution concerning coal severance funds for 2012-2013.
The resolution was unanimously approved by all present members. The members discussed the numerous ways the money was to be used. This includes $85,000 of the severance fund being used to complete the new street department building. The building still needs a heating unit and second story completion.
Also, $25,000 of the severance funds will be used to purchase new cruisers for the police department.
The police department just received one cruiser and the second cruiser is expected to be at the dealership any day.
The police department is using the coal severance money with grant money received from rural development to purchase these new cruisers, along with radio equipment for the new vehicles.
After the meeting was adjourned, members of the city council were sworn in for their next year of service.
New council member Billy Robbins said he wanted to run for the office to “represent the people.”
Robbins is a longtime resident of Pineville. He said he wants to work with other council members and any members of the public that would like to help.
