Lady Lions advance to All ‘A’ semis

WILLIAMSBURG — The Pineville Lady Mountain Lions are moving on to the 13th Region All “A” semifinals after getting past host Williamsburg 52-41 in Tuesday’s late quarterfinal.

The Lady Lions trailed 10-6 after one quarter, but outscored the Lady Jackets 12-4 in the second quarter and never trailed after the half. It was 18-14 at the break and 36-22 after three quarters.

Pineville was led by junior Devin Enix with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Annalee Adams pitched in with 16 points had five steals in the contest. Emily Mullins and Erica Gambrell added six points each for the Lady Lions.

Williamsburg was led by Kacie Brown’s 14 points while Carissa Conlin finished with 10.

Brown scored four of her points in the first quarter while Conlin, Tarrah Davis and Haley Harris also had baskets as the Lady Jackets built that 10-6 lead.

Pineville was held to just four points from Mullins and two from Enix in the opening period, but got going in the second. Adams hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven in the quarter while Enix also hit one from long range and scored the other five Lady Lions points. Meanwhile, the PHS defense held the Lady Jackets to just a 3-pointer from Brown and a free throw from Conlin as they surged into the lead.

It was more of the same in the third period as Enix hit two 3s on her way to 10 points, Adams added five and Gambrell knocked down a 3-pointer as Pineville outscored Williamsburg 18-8 to take control of the game. Leading 36-22 after three quarters, Pineville hit 10-of-18 free throws in the final period to hold on.

The Lady Jackets hit 15-of-19 free throws in the fourth quarter, but were never able to get over the hump. Adams had a pair of baskets and Mullins one in the fourth as Pineville went on to the 11-point win.

The Lady Lions improve to 10-7 on the season and advance to play Oneida Baptist in Thursday’s late semifinal, scheduled to start at about 7:30 p.m. OBI edged Red Bird 51-49 in Tuesday’s early game.

Thursday’s 6 p.m. semifinal will see the Middlesboro Lady Jackets take on Lynn Camp. The semifinals and Friday’s championship game are being played at Williamsburg.

Williamsburg (1-16) hosts Bell County next Tuesday.
