Josephine Brooks, 73, of Middlesboro, passed away Monday January 7, at the Middlesboro ARH. She was born July 14, 1939 in Middlesboro, KY, the daughter of the late J. Matt and Della Mae Simpson Brooks. She was a member of the Church of The First Born. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ralph Mayes; son-in-law: Leamon Ward; 1 brother: Eugene Brooks; uncle: Everett Simpson; great nephew: J.D. Irvin; cousin: Rev. James Earl Brooks; niece: Joyce Brooks and a special friend: Bill Brim.

She is survived by the following members of her family: children: Curtis (Bernice) Mayes, Kenneth Wayne (Linda) Mayes, Michael Lynn (Paula) Mayes, Ivan Mitchell (Cecilia) Mayes, Mary Katherine (Leonard Hobbs) Williams and Priscilla Ward; 2 brothers: Bill Brooks – Michigan and David (Cindy) Brooks – Maynardville, TN; 3 sisters: Annie (Bill) Raines – North Carolina, Nell (Paul) Himes – Michigan and Rachael Raines – Middlesboro, KY; 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James O. Barnett, Rev. Billy Paul and Mr. Glenn Raines presiding. Music will be provided by the Church of the First Born Choir and Jerry Barnett. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joseph Mayes, Mitchell Mayes, Dewey Mayes, Brian Ward, Skippy Rogers, Junior Brooks, Leamon Ward and Chris Osborne.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nursing Staff of the Middlesboro ARH, Jean Gage, Dr. Efren Valencia and Dr. Floyd Poore.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Creech Funeral Home.
