HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lady Railsplitters used a second-half surge to upend the Wingate University Bulldogs, 65-56, in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday. With the win, Lincoln Memorial University (9-9, 2-6 SAC) evened out their season record and snapped a four-game losing skid, while Wingate (9-9, 3-5 SAC) dropped their second-consecutive decision in conference play with the loss.

The Lady Railsplitters and Bulldogs were tied at 28 at halftime, however, Lincoln Memorial shot 50 percent from the field and outscored Wingate 37-28 in the second half to pull out the victory.

Lincoln Memorial was led by the four-headed attack of Kalasia Green, Kelsey Bradford, Elliotte Roberts and MaRanda Boddie, as those four combined for 46 of the Lady Railsplitters’ 65 points. Green led all players in the contest with 17 points and the junior also tallied six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Bradford also filled out the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and two steals in only 24 minutes of action. Freshman Elliotte Roberts posted the best game of her young career with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench to lead the Lady Railsplitters’ second unit to a 22-6 scoring advantage over the Bulldogs. Boddie pitched in with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds to lead LMU to a 42-39 margin of victory on the glass. Boddie also swatted three shots in 31 minutes of action for the Lady Railsplitters.

Sarah Wollett paced the Bulldogs with 13 points in 36 minutes of action, while Janitsha Williams and Chantal Dunbar added 12 and 10 points respectively. Dunbar matched Boddie’s game-high output with eight rebounds.

Wingate stormed out to an 8-2 advantage following a layup by Chantal Dunbar with 17:30 left to play in the half. The Lady Railsplitters countered with a 9-3 run, capped by a three-pointer from Haley Nelson to square the game at 11 apiece with 12:14 left on the clock. Later LMU used a 9-0 rally, paced by Kortnay Cox’s four points, to take a 20-16 lead with 8:28 to play in the first period. There were five ties over the final eight and a half minutes of the half, with a Chantal Dunbar jumper with 33 ticks left in the period sending the game into the break at 28-all.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with two-straight scores but it was all Lady Railsplitters from there. LMU strung together ten unanswered points to assume a 38-32 advantage with 14:53 left in the contest and they would never trail again. LMU led by as many as 14 points after a jumper by Roberts with 3:46 to play and they went on to win by nine.

The Lady Railsplitters will look to build on this momentum as they welcome Tusculum College to town for a South Atlantic Conference showdown with the Pioneers on Wednesday at 6 p.m. LMU will look to avenge a 66-47 loss to Tusculum from earlier in the season.
