Dan Scott from Scott Recycling in Knoxville, Tenn., addressed the Bell County 109 Board during the regular meeting on Wednesday.
Scott spoke about the possible Electronic Scrap (E-Scrap) Day the recycling center is thinking about hosting.
People would be able to dispose of electronics they no longer want during the event.
Scott explained two approaches the company typically takes when it comes to recycling electronics for entities. The first was a consistent program. In this program, Scott Recycling would come to the county and pick up the electronics when needed from the recycling center. Scott Recycling would provide Gaylord boxes and pallets at no cost to the recycling center. They would also come and pick up the materials and process them free of charge.
The only time a charge would be placed on the recycling center is if a tractor trailer load of TVs need to be removed for disposal. At that point, there would be a charge of 10 cents per pound.
The 10 cent charge would be placed after 25 percent of the recycling load was filled with TVs. Scott stated a report would be provided to the 109 Board each time a pickup occurred.
The second option Scott Recycling offers is an event schedule, which would occur only at scheduled times. With this option, Scott Recycling would come to the area with their own equipment and set up shop.
The one-day events typically occur on the weekend in an area with a flat space. On that day, Scott Recycling would take all the materials dropped off back to Knoxville for processing.
The 109 Board stated a one-day event would probably be the best route for Bell County.
Scott stated data is terminated from hard drives when the material is processed. He said if items can be refurbished, Scott Recycling would sell the items. Scott stated the company can physically destroy items, but there is a charge to do so.
The board did not take action on this issue during the meeting.
