Morgan Thompson and Hayden Bennett were recently selected to represent Middlesboro Middle School (MMS) by performing in the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) All-State Honors Choir.
Thompson and Bennett perform in the MMS choir under the direction of Elizabeth Edwards, a member of the KMEA.
The sold-out concert was held at the Kentucky Center in Louisville on Feb. 7 as part of the 2013 KMEA Professional Development Conference. The students were chosen for the honor by competitive auditions held this year across the state.
Thompson is the daughter of Derek and Jakie and sister to Keaton. This was her second time receiving the honor as she was selected for the All-State Children’s Chorus two years ago. She was honored to be selected by audition to the Junior High Treble Chorus this year to perform under the direction of Charlotte Adams.
Thompson is a member of Hensely Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she is an active member of the youth group and youth choir. She is an honor student as well as a member of the MMS/MHS Choir. Morgan is also a proud member of the Lady Jacket Basketball team under coaches Elgie and Debbie Green and is reigning MMS football homecoming queen, reigning Kentucky Beauties Supreme Civic Queen (Lexington) and reigning Kentucky Beauties Overall Supreme Queen (ages 10 and up - Louisville).
Morgan enjoys participating in pageants, playing ball and being with her “basketball sisters,” hanging out with her friends, attending church and spending time with her family.
Bennett is the son of Bob and Carla. Bennett and his sister, Sophia, are piano students of Linda Barton in Middlesboro.
This was Bennetts’ first time auditioning for an All-State ensemble. He was selected to perform as a tenor in the SATB Mixed Chorus with Director Dr. Russell L. Robinson.
Bennett is a MMS honors student and participates in the Middle School Advisory Council as well as the Middlesboro district wide Student Advisory Council. He is a member of the MMS/MHS choir and other school activities include tennis, Governor’s Cup academic team and Math Counts.
He attends New Vine Baptist Church and enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, attending La Comedia theatre, modifying/designing items, listening to music, playing piano and the BBC sci-fi series “Dr. Who”. Bennett will be returning to Louisville next month to compete in the KAAC Governor’s State Finals in Language Arts and Science.
