The Middlesboro High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) continues its winning ways.

Established in August of the 1993-94 school year and maintaining the Army’s highest rating as an honor unit with distinction places them in the top 10 percent of all JROTC units in the country.

JROTC provides opportunities for all students, not just the ones thinking about entering the military as a career.

JROTC does not recruit students for the military. The main mission is to motivate them and help them graduate from high school.

Students are allowed to take JROTC all four years of high school and JROTC provides them a welcome place to become part of their school and community.

The Mission of JROTC is to “motivate young people to become better citizens.” JROTC provides students the tools they will need to become successful in life.

JROTC is very cost effective. All uniforms, books, equipment, computers and other technology items are provided by the United States Army.

At no cost to the parents or school district, students are issued uniforms at the beginning of the year to wear and at the end of the school year the students turn them back into the JROTC supply room.

The Army also helps pay the instructors salaries under a cost share program.
