BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Marion County’s Makayla Epps scored 22 points n leading the Lady Knights to a 71-32 win over Montgomery County in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 in Diddle Arena.
Marion County (36-0) advances to Saturday’s semifinals against the winner of Anderson County and Shelby Valley.
Epps, the 2012-13 Gatorade Kentucky Girls Basketball Player of the Year, added six assists and five rebounds on Friday.
Logan Powell added 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Region 5 champion Lady Knights. Kentucky signee Kyvin Goodin-Rogers has 16 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and five steals.
Erica Rogers had a team-high 11 points for Region 10 champ Montgomery County (28-6).
Marion County held the Lady Indians to 29.5 percent field goal shooting and out-rebounded Montgomery County 42-25.
Anderson Co. 65, Shelby Valley 23
Anderson County’s Eriel McKee led the way with 24 points as the Lady Bearcats beat Shelby Valley 65-23 in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 at Diddle Arena.
Anderson County (33-1) advances to play Marion County (36-0) in the tournament semifinals Saturday.
McKee also grabbed 12 rebounds Friday for the Region 8 champion Lady Bearcats. Makenzie Cann added 11 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three blocks.
The 23 points scored by the Region 14 champion Lady Cats (29-4) marks the lowest point total of any game during this year’s tournament. Shelby Valley shot just 21.4 percent from the field and didn’t attempt a single free throw all game.
Anderson County out-rebounded the Lady Cats 41-17.
Rachel Smith (11 points) was Shelby Valley’s lone double-digit scorer.
DuPont Manual 78, Owensboro Cath. 69
DuPont Manual’s Kayla Styles scored 21 points Friday night in leading the Lady Crimsons to a 78-69 win over Owensboro Catholic in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 at Diddle Arena.
Region 7 champions Manual (24-8) advance to Saturday’s tournament semifinals.
The loss marked the final game in the career of Duke signee and Miss Basketball finalist Rebecca Greenwell of Owensboro Catholic (25-7). The Lady Aces senior scored 30 points and tallied seven rebounds and three steals for the Region 3 champion Lady Aces.
Styles also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists for Manual. Morgan Allen added 17 points.
Friday’s win marked the final game of a three-game suspension for Manual coach Stacy Pendleton stemming from an ejection during the regional semifinals.
Notre Dame 48, Marshall Co. 39
Notre Dame’s Olivia Voskuhl scored 20 points Friday night in leading the Pandas to a 48-39 win over Marshall County in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 at Diddle Arena.
The win clinched Region 9 champion Notre Dame (28-5) a spot in Saturday’s semifinals against Region 7 champion Manual (25-8).
Carlee Clemons added 12 points and Haylee Smith chipped in 10 for the Pandas.
The Region 1 champion Lady Marshals (27-9) led Notre Dame 33-32 at the 6:06 mark of the fourth quarter, but the Pandas pulled away with a 16-7 game-ending run. Marshall County went the last 5:31 of the game without scoring a field goal.
Taylor Meadows led Marshall County with 16 points.
