Mrs. Carrie E. O. Taylor was born April 19, 1925, in Middlesboro, KY, to the late Rev. Chester Anderson and the late Mary Willie Anderson-Holmes.


While residing in Middlesboro she married the late Milton O. Taylor for forty-seven years. During those wonderful years they raised Katrina Maye of Covington, GA as their daughter, and son, William Shane Taylor of Roswell, GA.


Carrie was employed in her early years as a cook for Summons Restaurant, Dr. Flowers, and The Saylor’s of Saylor’s Fruit Market. She also worked as a hair stylist from her home. She joined Thankful Baptist Church at a very young age and became a devoted member. She served faithfully in the Choir and the Missionary Board for many years.


Carrie, Fanny Gregory, Dora McCombs, Betty Drake, Gary Phillips and Frank Smith formed a Gospel singing group called the Joyfulettes. They were the first African American singing group that ever had a radio show on WMIK –Radio every Sunday for years in Middlesboro. She also served in the WVFW (Women of Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion.


Before moving to Knoxville, Tenn she spent most of her time raising children, taking care of the elderly and visiting the sick and shut in.


She leaves to mourn her precious memories: her son , William Shane Taylor and her beloved Aunt, Mrs. Ruby Helen Pate of Knoxville, TN and her Aunts Children, Marcus Ferguson and wife Deloris of Marion, IN, Gwendolyn Cooke of Knoxville, TN, Katrina Maye of Covington, GA, Vernita Williams, of Morristown, TN, Aunt’s Grands, The late Lolita Blue, Maurice Ferguson, Viva Brown, Marcus Ferguson Jr., Andronica White (Rhodi) Johnny Cooke, Jr.,(Shag) Makeisha Marshall, Harold Williams (Anthony) Jeremy Cooke, Milton Williams (Omar), Her Aunt’s Great Grands, Malik Ferguson, Justin Marshall, Shana Taylor, Jada Cooke, Jaden Brown, Jordon Marshall, Jase Marshall Milan Cooke and Sean Anthony Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.


Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Lynch Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013.
