The Jackets defeated Ponte Vedra, Fla. 13-10 in eight innings on Monday then topped St. Augustine 9-6 Tuesday.
Monday it was Evan Womack and Hunter Adams leading the Middlesboro offense with three RBIs each. Adams did his damage with a double while Womanck had two singles.
Holden Moyers also had two hits for the Jackets and scored three runs, Kendall Ferguson singled in his only at bat, drove in a run and scored. Josh Branhan also singled while Scott Mason didn’t hit but reached via a walk and being hit by a pitch, scored three runs and drove in one.
Mason also worked eighth inning to earn a save in the game giving up just on hit.
Alex Pratt got the win after pitching 1-1/3 innings. He allowed two unearned runs on one hit while walking two and striking out one.
Brett Pittman started the game with four shutout innings, but tired in the fifth as his pitch count got up. He allowed three runs, on four hits over 4-2/3 while striking out eight and walking seven.
Ferguson also pitched an inning for the Jackets, who overcame four errors to pull out the win.
Tuesday, the Jackets jumped on top of St. Augustine with a three-run first inning and never trailed as they broke open a 5-4 game by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth.
Adams again had the big hit for Middlesboro as he homered and singled to drive in four runs.
Pittman had two singles and an RBI while Branham also had two hits.
Mason had the other Jacket hit while Womack walked three times and scored three runs.
Pratt started and got the win as he pitched 5-2/3 while allowing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Mason again got the save as he was perfect over the final inning and 1/3 and struck out two.
Middlesboro (2-1) was to play at St. Joseph on Wednesday and Menendez on Friday to complete the trip.
They play Pineville on Monday, April 6, in the opening round of the 13th Region All ‘A’ classic.
