Jason Taylor Shipley, age 31, Cumberland Gap, TN, Powell Valley area, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home as a result of complications from spinal surgery. He was born August 29, 1981 in Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Log and Polly Ann Sowders and Sherman and Hazel Ayers; his paternal grandfather, Albert Shipley; and several aunts and uncles.

Jason was a graduate of Powell Valley High School where he played baseball and football. He loved hunting and enjoyed running beagles with the KTV Beagle Club. He was of the Baptist faith and was saved at an early age at Underwood Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Ayers O’Neal; sister, Madison O’Neal, both of Greeneville, TN; grandparents: TJ and Retha Ayers of Cumberland Gap, TN and Ruby Shipley of Speedwell, TN; aunt, Sandy Chaney of Middlesboro, KY; aunt and uncle, Mary and Rick Ayers of Cumberland Gap, TN; cousins, Scott Chaney, Steven, Michael and Derrick Ayers; and many special friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be his family and friends. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
