West Pineville Baptist Church pastor, David Peters, presented the mayor and council with a list of questions regarding the wet/dry issues that his church would like answered before an election takes place.
The council accepted the request and City Attorney Steve Keeney told Peters that it would take some time to answer the questions because some of the questions concern the financial aspects of the issue.
W. S. Baker also addressed the council to request that the alley behind his house be kept open at all times. Baker expressed his disgust at being unable to get out of his driveway to take his wife, who is in a wheelchair, to the Mountain Laurel Festival breakfast. He told the council that he knew there was an ordinance regarding the obstruction of the alley's. Pineville Police Chief John Collins stated that he would tell each officer to start patrolling the alley's more often and take care of this problem.
The council members also discussed the city police patrol and street department maintenance. Councilman Mike Long addressed the Chief Collins and others regarding various areas of the city needing more patrols. Chief Collins told the council that he would have the officers do a daily activity log.
The next item discussed was activity regarding the street sweeper and pick ups.
The council was told that for the time being the street sweeper is not in use because it damaged when it caught on fire and the street department is waiting to be advised on what to do from the insurance company. As for pick ups, council was advised that any request for pick ups are addressed the same day the request is received. Mayor Hendrickson advised the council that he requires the street crew to complete a daily report of their activities.
The council also decided to review the budget before deciding on two items on the agenda. The first was a letter from The Friends of the Shelter requesting funding. Councilman Bruce Nunn asked that they look at the budget, before answering the request.
The second request was from the fire department asking for funds for various projects and the council agreed to look into it when they work on the budget.
Also, the council discussed CHA Health Insurance for employees and decided that it should be brought to the employees before the budget workshop.
