In recent months, the crews of inmates that collect trash and assist city workers have been absent in Middlesboro, but Bell County Forestry Camp Warden Gregory Howard confirmed that crews will soon be returning, probably by September 20.
On Thursday, Howard held a meeting with State Representative Rick Nelson, Mayor Ben Hickman, Safety Director James Pursifull, and city Councilman Everett (Mammaw) Gulley to discuss “the correction of the supervision of the inmates.”
The warden would not specifically discuss the problems that occurred during the crews’ previous work in the city, but said that he was satisfied with the outcome of Thursday’s discussion.
Howard is confident that the issues with the supervision of the inmates will be corrected and said that he is pleased about allowing them to serve the city again.
“I have pledged my full support to the community since I have been Warden,” Howard said. “We’re excited about getting to work back in Middlesboro.”
