Billy Joe Idol, age 79 of Middlesboro, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born Sunday, February 5, 1933, in Granger County, Tenn., and was the son of the late Ernest Lloyd Idol Sr. and Rosa Mae Coffman Idol.Mr. Idol was well-known in Middlesboro for his love of refereeing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Billy Joe Idol Jr.; sister, Mrs. Jack (Lila) Smith; and his brother, Lloyd Idol Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Delilah Idol; his son, Robert Lee “Bobby” Idol; his sisters, Bessie DeBusk and Delta Gibson; his brother, Leland Idol Sr.; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Hurst Cemetery with the Rev. Mitch Bradshaw officiating.

The family received friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, July 9, at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
