Bruce Allen Trent, of Lexington, KY passed away at the Kindred Hospital, Louisville, KY on Sunday, February 10, 2013.

Bruce was born in Middlesboro, KY to Leland and Thelma Robinson Trent. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harry “Pud” Trent and infant brothers, John and William Trent.

At age 10, Bruce accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the Mount View Baptist Church in Middlesboro, KY. At Mount View he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Deacon. He also served on various church committees. He faithfully read and studied his Bible every day. Bruce was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Lexington, KY where he served as a Greeter with his wife.

Bruce attended the Lincoln School, graduated from Middlesboro High School and Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, TN where he received a BA in Psychology. He also graduated from the University of Louisville where he received a Master’s Degree in Social Work.

Bruce retired from the Personnel Cabinet as the Assistant EEO Coordinator for the state of Kentucky in Frankfort, KY, after 24 years of service. As a student he worked for Interfaith of Bell County, Creech Funeral Home, HUD, Middlesboro Fire Department, Middlesboro Community Development, and did substitute teaching for the Middlesboro Schools. As a graduate student, he worked for the Cabinet for Families and Children in Louisville and the Department for Education in Frankfort, KY.

Bruce was the creator of the Middlesboro Tri-State Expo which was held annually to give hundreds of students career and job opportunities. At the Lexington VA Medical Center, he worked as a volunteer with Veterans. He truly enjoyed helping others.

He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was a strong Christian and practiced Christianity and Southern Hospitality to all he met. Bruce will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Elaine Bishop Trent, and their son, Christian Trent of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by his sisters: Melinda Thompson (Edward); Ida Trent, and Ann Trent; his brothers: Michael Trent of Louisville, KY and Rev. Arthur Trent of Georgetown, KY. He leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an uncle.

Special recognition goes to his niece, Michelle Todd, Mrs. Albert Caise, church friend of Lexington, KY, and Mr. Glenn Thomas of Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral Services will be held at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Middlesboro, KY on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Arthur Trent presiding. Rev.

Trent will be assisted by Rev. John Clark, Rev. Michael Ferguson, and Rev. Thomas Simmons.

Burial will be at Lynch’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Fred Bishop, Toby Bishop, James Drake, Jr. Joseph Kyle, Ricky Washington, and Brian West.

Creech Funeral Home, Middlesboro, is in charge of the arrangements.
