Joe A. Akers, age 75 of Bethlehem, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Son of the late Joseph and Pearlie (Dean) Akers, he was the owner/operator of Lakeview Nursery. He was the previous owner of Spruce Hill Nursery in Louisville. Joe was a member of Pleasureville Baptist Church. He was on the board of directors of the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville, KY.

Survived by: wife:Norma Akers of Bethlehem; daughters: Debbie Akers (Kevin Macdonald) of Tamarac, FL, Suzy Kaltenthaler (Charles) of Clarksville, TN, Kelly Jo Akers of Bethlehem; sisters: Viola Harris of Pineville, Norma Jean Akers of Pineville, Lora Akers of Pineville; brother: Lester Akers of Bethlehem; dear friend: Wanda Baker of Pleasureville; grandchildren: Steven, Kryssy, C.J., Chaz and Alexis; nephews: Joe Alan Harris of Pineville, Joseph Harris (Ashley) of Pineville; niece: Stephanie Warren (Adam) of LaGrange.

Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Pleasureville Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service-time on Friday at Pleasureville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasureville Baptist Church at P.O. Box 147 in Pleasureville or to the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Foundation at P.O. Box 151 in Pineville.

Local visitation will begin 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, KY with a 1 PM graveside service to follow at Pineville Memorial Cemetery.
