One person was injured as the result of an ATV accident on Hwy. 987 near Brownie’s Creek Saturday, according to a Bell County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The release states that Bell County Dispatch received a call of the wreck at 10:47 a.m.
Responding to the scene was the Bell County EMS, Bell County Rescue Squad, Bell County Volunteer Fire Department, and Bell County Deputy Jared Smith, who discovered resident Shannon Boatright not far from an ATV she had been operating. The ATV was over an embankment and Boatright was injured.
According to the release, Boatright stated that she had been attempting to load the 2016 Polaris Sportsman for transport back to a dealer for a mechanical issue when the accelerator stuck and took off with her on it.
The vehicle careened down a hill, leaving the roadway, the release states. The ATV traveled approximately 20 feet then down an embankment, throwing Boatright from the vehicle.
Bell County EMS transported Boatright to the Pineville Community Hospital. She was treated for a broken rib, torn shoulder, bruised sternum and bruised left lung, according to BCSO.
Smith determined that alcohol and drugs were not involved in this accident.
