Pineville opened their 2016-17 campaign with a slugfest against Oneida Baptist Institute on Thursday. In what seemed like a back-and-forth game, the Mountain Lions outpaced the Mountaineers en route to a 73-71 victory.
Trent Lefevers had one of the biggest games of his career to help Pineville win their regular season debut. The senior scored a game-high 36 points while shooting at a 62.5 percent clip.
Lefevers went 1-for-3 from long range. He also converted 15 of his 22 free throws. He completed the double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Will Adams, Josh Lawson and Ben Goodin also scored in the double digits throughout the game. Lawson finished the night with 11 points and six rebounds. Will Adams contributed by adding 10 points and five rebounds.
Goodin went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field while shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line to add 10 points for the Mountain Lions. Tucker Woolum helped defensively by tallying six rebounds. He scored six points for Pineville as well.
Pineville (1-0) returns to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with their home opener against Thomas Walker, Virginia.
Oneida Baptist (1-1) played at Barbourville (0-0) on Friday before returning home on Monday for a game against Owsley County (0-2).
