The Lady Lions were down by four entering the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game against Williamsburg. Pineville did more than enough to overcome the deficit as they scored 28 points in the final quarter en route to a 62-52 victory over Williamsburg.
The Lady Jackets held slim leads at the end of the first three quarters before Pineville’s offense came alive in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. During the fourth, Sarah Combs paced the team with 10 points.
Makenzie Fuson finished the fourth with six points, while Jillian Enix and Morgan Thompson ended the quarter with five apiece. Autumn Short and Whitney Caldwell each scored one point in the final quarter.
The Lady Lion defense stepped up in the fourth quarter by holding two of Williamsburg’s three leading scorers to a single basket. Entering the final quarter, Lillie Hall had 15 points and Lillie Abbott had nine. Both only scored two points during the final frame.
Combs led the Pineville offense with 17 points while shooting 50 percent from the field. Fuson added 14 points while grabbing five rebounds. Enix finished the game near double-double territory by tallying 13 points and nine rebounds.
Thompson ended the game shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and scoring on her only free-throw attempt to garner nine points. Autumn Short finished the game with seven rebounds.
Hall paced the Lady Jackets with 17 points while shooting at a 61.5 percent clip. Kayla Gibson finished the game with 16 points while grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Abbott shot 80 percent from the field in an 11-point performance.
Pineville (1-0) hosts Thomas Walker, Virginia at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Williamsburg (1-2) will host Jellico, Tennessee at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
